HEALTHY HOMEMADE LATTE

It's starting to get colder here in California and the holidays are always the time of year that I like to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning!! I do not drink it daily and I to be honest I prefer my pre-workout most days but I do love a good latte!!

"But Meg, is caffeine HEALTHY?" I hear this questions a lot - especially from my mother- and I am happy to report that YES you can still enjoy your lattes and live a healthy lifestyle! While the sugar and heavy cream and artificial flavors in the syrups that are available to add to coffee are not healthy, coffee itself has many healthy benefits!

Coffee has a super high amount of antioxidants and it has been shown to:

  • Boost brain power.

  • Help you burn fat.

  • Improve physical performance

But when we add sugar and processed flavors or heavy cream to our cup of coffee it can become calorie heavy and unhealthy. BUT GOOD NEWS! You can either enjoy it black (like my husband) and still get all the benefits OR you can try out my super simple Homemade Latte Recipe! You do not need an espresso machine, or a daily Starbucks or a latte maker, all you need is a blender and a cup of coffee and some milk! It is SO GOOD and SO EASY and will save you calories, time and money!!

Ingredients:

- cup of coffee

- splash of almond milk ( I buy the Unsweetened Silk brand from Costco that comes in a 3-pack)

- for sweetness add a splash of stevia, a drop of honey or even coconut nectar

- coconut oil (one teaspoon)

- cinnamon

- pumpkin spice or cinnamon (for topping)

Directions:

- add coffee, cinnamon, nut milk, stevia and coconut oil to a blender (I use my small magic bullet blender)

- blend for 10-15 seconds *it comes out all frothy like a latte!!

- sprinkle pumpkin spice or cinnamon on top!

You can add or remove whatever spices you like! Don't like your coffee a tad sweet? Remove the sweetener! So tasty, easy and delicious!

XO,

MEGAN
