Eating the Rainbow

When I first started eating a clean diet I was 19 and honestly all I thought about was calories in and calories out. In my 20s I became more interested in organic food and plant based nutrition and in my 30s I learned about balanced macros, how to eat for fuel & for optimal health!


Simple nutrition tip to help you with your fitness goals and health goals is to EAT THE RAINBOW !! Choosing colorful wholesome plantbased foods & incorporating them into your meals can help you get better results from your workouts AND protect you from disease! Here’s a list of what the different colors do for your body!


Red = Phytochemicals like Lypocene (tomato, apples, watermelon, papaya, red bell peppers, mangos)

- Protects against certain cancers

- Reduce the risk of diabetes

- Improves skin quality

- Decreases the risk of heart disease and stroke

- Soaks up damaging free radicals


Orange/Yellow = Carotenoids (carrots, bell peppers, sweet potatoes, orange squash)

- Protects the skin against sun and pollution

- Improves immune function

- Promotes eye health and protects vision

- Decreases risk of various cancers

- Reduces risk of heart disease


Green = Antioxidants & Chlorophyll (Greens!)

- Helps tissue heal

- Detoxifies the body

- Provides digestive enzymes

- Restores energy and increase vitality

- Reduces risk of cancer

- Boosts the immune system


Blue/Purple = Antioxidants & Resveratrol (berries, purple cabbage, onion, eggplant)

- Promotes longevity

- Reduces risk of Alzheimer's

- Boosts memory

- Protects cells from damage

- Reduces the risk and slows the progression of cancer

- Helps fight inflammation


White = Healthy food like bananas, cauliflower, garlic, mushrooms!

- Keeps bones strong
