5 Tips for Success - Newsletter Volume 3

I am so excited to be able to share with you my top 5 tips for success in this weeks newsletter. We are all capable of having success with a healthy lifestyle but sometimes it takes a little more than just buying more fruits and vegetables at the store. A lot of times I see my clients, friends and family approach it in a way that makes eating healthy and working out that much harder. Today I am going to share with you 5 things that I have used over the years to help me have success with this lifestyle and I hope that it helps you too!

5 Tips for Success

#1. WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS

This is the first step to achieving anything. If you do not know what it is you want, then how can you work towards achieving it? So take a piece of paper, grab your journal or open up a new Word document on your computer and start writing! I like to hand write my goals first. I set a timer for 5 minutes and I just write down as many things as I can for five minutes. Next, I set the timer for 1 minute and take a highlighter and highlight the goals that stand out to me and make me feel the most excited and the most scared. If you are not making goals that scare you, then your goals are not BIG enough! Fear is just another form of excitement so stop thinking of it as a negative reaction and use it to your advantage!

#2. REVERSE ENGINEER YOUR GOALS

This is a huge step and one that a lot of people do not do. Once you have your goal you must exhaust all the ways in which you can achieve it. What does it take to reach that goal? What tools will you need? Who is part of that goal? Do you need to buy anything? DO THE RESEARCH! For example, if your goal is to lose weight, then you must write down everything that you have to do to lose weight.

  1. stop drinking soda

  2. stop eating out

  3. buy more fruits and vegetables and actually eat them

  4. move my body for 30 minutes a day

  5. find a buddy or accountability partner

  6. clean out pantry and fridge and toss or donate all unhealthy food

  7. research best foods for weight loss

  8. ask friends in a facebook post for favorite healthy recipes

#3. COMMIT 100%

If you commit to your goals you will achieve them. It might take you longer than you had originally expected or it might take you less time. But if you have a clear vision of what you want to achieve YOU CAN achieve it.

#4. BE CONSISTENT

One way to have success in creating healthy lifestyle habits is to be consistent. You can not make a habit of something if you do it once a week or just on the weekends. You must do it daily to see results. If you eat a salad and salmon every night for dinner for 3 weeks, you will lose weight, your body will start to crave veggies and protein for dinner and you will create that habit for yourself. But if you eat that same meal 3x a week for 3 weeks, you will not see much difference, you will most likely binge and eat unhealthy on the nights you don't have it and you will get frustrated and feel like a failure in your efforts. But it is not that you failed, you just were not consistent.

#5. BE POSITIVE

Mindset is everything when it comes to success! If you believe that you can do something then you will find a way to do it. If you walk around blaming your life or current state of health on your genetics, your income, your lack of time, your job, your spouse, your kids....then all you are doing is attracting more of whatever you are complaining about! You MUST have an I CAN DO THIS attitude if you want to succeed at anything. Not sure how to get it? There are thousands of personal development leaders, authors and books out there to choose from. Go get one and read 10 minutes of it a day. That habit will change your life.
